model as muse

I'm sad to say this but The Costume Institute Gala was a huge let down. See for this event, one must be really opened minded about fashion since we all have different opinions on what works and what doesn't. Now I sound like Tim Gunn.. "make it work".... um back to the topic- I'm used to liking a particular dress or a style while others around me give me a strange look or it ends up on the Fashion Police. But I think most of us can agree that there were plenty of disasters last night (*cough* Shalom Harlow *cough*). I appreciate the people who took a risk but some things, like Madonna's Louis Vuitton bunny ears, should be left on the runway.
That being said, I did have a few favorites however they all seem to lean more on the safe side. Which is a shame, I think, because the MET ball is always my favorite red carpet event of the year since its more focused on the fashion than the celebs.
Winners (for me) of the night:

Dasha Zhykova in vintage Prada (looked really amazing in motion)

Claudia Schiffer in Atelier Versace (although she could have done something better with her hair)

Miranda Kerr in Jil Sander

Coco Rocha in Isaac Mizrahi

Diane Kruger in Chanel

Jessica Stam in Rodarte

Kate Bosworth in Stella McCartney

Agh - I LOVE Diane Kruger's dress, so gorgeous!

I agree with you though, generally it was a bit of a let down - I imagine it must be quite a difficult event to dress for because you run the risk of either playing it safe and then being labelled boring, or trying something a bit daring and experimental but getting it horribly, horribly wrong - case in point, Madonna!
